FF40 – Day 37 on Community | From Sarah Currey

Proverbs 27:17 | James 4:11 | Colossians 3:16

While transitioning into your new home here, you have to remember that
you are now a part of the Belmont community. This community is filled with
people of different backgrounds and outlooks on life, and it is important not
to forget God in this transition.

God is a relational being who created all of us to make relationships with
Him and the people surrounding us. Even though you will come across
individuals whose viewpoints you will not understand, do not flee, slander,
or get angry (James 4:11). Listen to them. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron
sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Strong relationships are
able to share differences with one another and even clash at times, yet
always maintain love and respect. As the community develops through these
relationships, each person is refined in the same way iron is sharpened.
Immerse yourself into God’s community and develop relationships that will
challenge you and make you a better servant of the Lord.

Colossians 3:16 calls out for our community to, “let the message of Christ
dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit.” This is a calling
to become a leader and servant to the community by reaching out and
bringing together the community to serve, rejoice, and build one another
up. Immerse yourself in God’s Word, and allow it to transform you – and
this community. Build relationships with people who will challenge you, and
stretch you, in ways that benefit you and this community. You are unique,
and have something special to add to this community. Ask God to show you
how, and then be faithful to offer your gifts to your new community.
