FF40 – Day 36 on Faith | From Christopher Dean

Psalm 46:1-3 | John 15:4-5, 7, 10 | James 1:5-6

One of the key elements of our relationship with God is faith. James 1:5-6 is
a perfect example of what it means to come to God with true conviction. These
verses encourage us to find God in a time of need, when we need advice
and are looking for purpose. They encourage us to fully believe in God.

At first glance, these verses in James are all about having faith in God.
Looking a little deeper into the scripture, we are reminded in verse five
that God comes to us not looking at our flaws, but at our strengths. Yes,
we should have faith when we go to God, but we should also have faith in
ourselves. You are part of his creation, made in His image.

It’s important to remember who we are as individuals. Coming to college is a
time when we meet new people every day. The problem is that we are trying
to find ourselves in the midst of meeting hundreds of new people.

I’ve learned in college to not conform when building relationships with
others. I stay true to myself. I try not to drift away like the “wave of the sea,”
and lose sight of who I am, just to make some friends.

The next time you introduce yourself to someone, let them know who you
are, not who they want you to be. It’s okay to be a little hesitant. The key is to
have faith in the God who has made you – just as you are. A true friend won’t
focus on your flaws. They will focus on your gifts. That’s what God does.
