FF40 – Day 17 on Community | From Angie Bryant

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 | Proverbs 12:26 | 1 Thessalonians 5:15

Community is about relationships. It’s about people of diverse backgrounds,
values and interests with a sense of belonging and a sense of support.
Communities are connected by mutual passions; they might not all be for
the same things, but all are passionate about something. This is where the
relationships, built on common ground, will begin to deepen and intimacy,
accountability and support will begin to grow.

As members of a community of believers, God has given us the charge to
love one another as He has loved us. He has also given us His Holy Spirit
within to enable us to do so. Koinonia, unconditional love in action, receives
the grace of God with a grateful heart and lets the resources of God flow
through one’s life into the rest of God’s world. Koinonia implies partnership,
sharing and stewardship. Partnership (the bonding of two lives for a common
purpose) and sharing (releasing to another) both work together. Therefore
we must give serious consideration to those we would connect with and
call friend. Proverbs 12:26 advises that the righteous choose their friends
carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

God has created each of us with unique talents, gifts and abilities and as
we work with others to advance the kingdom of God, we are called to be
good stewards of these abilities. We are charged to do what is good for
each other and for everyone else. God, in his graciousness, has also given us others as co-laborers to assist us on this journey called life.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
